Marie Magdalene Weeda

Marie Weeda, 95, of Pipestone, MN formerly of Sibley, IA, died on Monday, November 23 at the Good Samaritan Village in Pipestone.  Services will be held on Friday, November 27 at 10:30 AM at the Chandler Funeral Chapel, Chandler, MN.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Chandler Funeral Chapel.  Interment will be held at the Chandler Memorial Cemetery in Chandler.  Pastor David Hicks, officiating.

Marie Magdalene Weeda was born July 6, 1920, to Gerrit and Tena (Kuipers) Weeda in Murray County, MN.  Her family lived in the Chandler area where she attended country school.  She later resided near Woodstock, MN, with her sister Margaret (Guy) Van de Voort and family for a number of years.  

Then Marie moved to Sibley, IA, where she was employed as a housekeeper and later worked at the bakery.  As the proud owner of her own home in Sibley, she enjoyed cooking for friends and relatives, and nurtured flowers in her yard. Marie was a member of the Reformed Church in Sibley; after that congregation diminished and ceased meeting, she joined the First Presbyterian Church there.  

Marie became a resident of Good Samaritan Village in Pipestone in January of 2006, but she continued to yearn for her home in Sibley.

Marie passed away on Monday, November 23, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Village in Pipestone, MN. 

She is lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Simon, Richard and Gerrit Weeda; two sisters, Margaret (Guy) Van de Voort and Hattie (Carl) Doppenberg; three nephews, Greg Weeda, Gilbert Van de Voort and John Doppenberg; a niece, Carol (Doppenberg) Joekema.
