Johanna (DeKruif) DeGroot

Johanna DeGroot, 96, Edgerton, formerly of Chandler, died on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at the Pipestone County Hospice House in Pipestone Minnesota.  

   JOHANNA “JO” DeGROOT, age 96, of Edgerton, died Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at the Hospice House in Pipestone. She was born December 12, 1923, in Maple Lake, MN, to John and Grace (DeVries) DeKruif. 
   Jo married Marvin DeGroot on January 14, 1944, at her parent’s farm near Chandler. The couple lived in Sioux Falls, SD for a short time before they began farming south of Chandler in 1945. In 1950, they purchased the farm north of Lake Wilson. They retired and moved to their acreage north of Chandler in 1980.
   She was a lifetime member of the Chandler Reformed Church. She enjoyed gardening, embroidery, crocheting, baking and spending time with her family.
   Jo is survived by her husband, Marv DeGroot, Edgerton; four children, Leslie (Sandy) DeGroot, Lake Wilson; Arvin (Sandy) DeGroot, Sacred Heart; Karla (William) Baumgartner, Sioux Falls, SD; and Charlene (Gary) Sliter, Princeton; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; three sisters, Grace VandeBrake, Bellflower, CA; Evelyn (Wallace) Runia, Balaton; and Faye (Arnold) DeKam, Mountian Grove, MO; and two brothers, Henry (Adrianna) DeKruif, Sioux Falls, SD; and John (Viola) DeKruif, Tempe, AZ.
   She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, John DeGroot; a brother, William DeKruif; and four sisters, Jen Eernissee, Elsie VandeVoort, Marie VanderTop and Wilamene Schoolmeester.
